Warden's Rambles - November 2010

Posted by Peter Jones on Thursday, October 21, 2010

I would like to start by thanking the residents who have called and let me know of suspicious activity in the village this month. The more people who call the more comprehensive picture I can forward to the authorities and the more likely and more quickly remedial action can be taken. PCSO Stevens and I appreciate the time taken to alert us of your concerns. Keep ‘em coming.

Halloween & Fireworks

PCSO Stevens and myself are planning to work on Halloween and Guy Fawkes should you need us.

Scams

There have been more duster sellers in the village with the story they have been young offenders and are raising money for courses. These people do not have the authority to sell at your door and if you buy from them you are more likely to be feeding an addiction and encouraging them to revisit the village where they could take advantage of the more vulnerable residents.

There have still been too many scrap vans collecting around the village and PCSO Stevens has dealt with some coincidental thefts of specific items. I have found numerous fly tips in the area this month and if you have let an unregistered waste carrier take your items you may find that you are liable for their irresponsible behaviour.

Crime Prevention

With the onset of the darker evenings it’s a good time to make sure outside security lighting is clean and working, also you could dig out those timer switches and set up some lighting to make it look as if someone’s at home (a high percentage of house breaks are attempted during the working day).

A locked shed/garage stops opportunists using your tools to break in to your home and keeps your garden equipment and bikes etc safe.

Contacts

Please report anything suspicious to myself and/or the local police as soon as possible together with any times, descriptions and/or vehicle details if possible.
